Objectives
To reduce the sedimentation flow into Mangla Reservoir through different Watershed Management activities line Afforestation, Check-dams construction of Spillways etc.

Financing
The Project is being financed by the Ministry  of Water & Power on the recommendations of Environment Division of Planning Commission.

Technical Data/Salient Features
Total catchments area of the project was 3433 sq miles out of which 3133 sq. miles has been covered by different Watershed Management Techniques upto 30-06-2007 in different Plans/PC-I. Under new PC-I (2007-08 to 2011-12) an area of 300 sq. miles will also be covered for the following activities. 

 
a. Afforestation
35,500 Acres
b. Raising of Forest Plants 13,600 Million
c. Soil Conservation Structures/Check-dams 10.000 Million Cft
d. Construction of Engg Structures Silt Trap 620 Nos.
e. Treatment of Bad Land Slides 27 Nos. Slides
f. Improvement of Cultivated Land 1937 Acres
g. Improvement of spring ponds 59 Nos.

Latest Status/Progress
A new PC-I for the period from 2007-08 to 2011-12 amounting to Rs. 273.656 million for Mangla Watershed Management Project, WAPDA, Rawalpindi has been prepared and submitted to Ministry of Planning & Development for approval. The approval of the same is under process. The progress of the project upto 30.06.2007 is enclosed as Annexure-I.
