BRIEF

           Central Design Office (Water) offers design services for all the disciplines of civil engineering including Dams, Power houses, Irrigation and drainage net works, Hydraulic structures, Flood protection works, Roads and Bridges, Architectural planning and design and structural analysis/design of all types of buildings. 

            Review of various civil engineering works designed by other WAPDA formations/consultants is also carried out, as and when referred. 

            Projects Review Directorate reviews PC-I, PC-II, Feasibility Studies and also works as secretariat for Standing Review Committee (SRC) constituted for clearance of PC-I and PC-IIs. 

  Central Design Office (Water) is presently headed by General Manager with one Chief Engineer and six directorates depending on professional specialization of jobs of different engineering disciplines.

  Each section is headed by Director and supported by experienced and young group of Design Engineers.

            The Directorates presently working are as under:

            1.         Director-I         Power Wing Civil Works
            2.         Director-II        Project Review Cell
            3.         Director-III      Water Wing Civil Works
            4.         Director-IV      Hydraulic Structures
            5.         Director-V       Soil & Foundation
            6.         Director-VI      Architecture

             D-I Directorate:

             D-I Directorate provides design service to the following entities of Power Wing, WAPDA:

            1.         DISCOS (All)
            2.         NTDC & NPCC
            3.         GENCOS (All)
            4.         HYDEL POWER STATIONS

            Structural, foundation, water supply and sewerage design and drawing works of various residential and non-residential buildings of the above mentioned entities of Power Wing is carried out in this Directorate, including review and comments on the design and drawings prepared by consultants engaged by various formations of Power Wing.

Computer Centre

A Computer Section is also working under D-I Directorate which is equipped with modern Digitizing, Scanning and Plotting facilities. New drawings are being prepared using Auto-CAD. Old and new drawings are scanned and saved on Hard Disk/CDs. Scanner XL-40+ is capable of scanning 40” wide sheet with any length. Similarly Plotter HP-500 can Plot/Print 40” wide sheet with any length.

          D-II Directorate:

          D-II Directorate deals with the review/comments on PC-I, PC-II 
          Proforma of   various Water Wing Projects. This Directorate also
          prepares the comments on Inception Reports, Mid Term Reports,
          Feasibility Study Reports other related Technical Reports, Research
          Papers and Design Criteria of various Projects and arranges meeting
          and coordination with different Projects Offices and SRC/HEP
          Standing Review Committee to review the matter on the agenda
          for approval.

          D-III Directorate:

          D-III Directorate is engaged in design of following Civil Works of
          Water Wing, WAPDA.

            1.         Analysis and design of multi-storey concrete structures
                        such as:

                         a)         Residential buildings.
                         b)         Non-residential buildings.
                         c)         Public utilities buildings e.g. Mosques and
                                     Markets etc.

             2.         Design of Water supply and sewerage system.
             3.         Design of cableways.
             4.         Review and vetting of structural design.

          In addition to above works this directorate conducts the training
          for the Drafting staff, which is a pre-requisite for promotion to the
          next post.

D-IV Directorate:

D-IV Directorate works for the hydraulic analysis/design of water related projects / schemes of WAPDA. Capability enhancement / modification / improvement in the existing system and the rehabilitation, if any is also included in the assignments of this directorate.

D-V (Soil & Foundation Directorate):

The Directorate of Soil and Foundation is entrusted to prepare soil investigation programmes for field and Laboratory tests, review soil investigation reports to finalize soil/foundation design parameters, type of foundation and designs of foundations of all types of structures.

This section prepares Geometric and structural design of all types of flexible and rigid pavements alongwith auxiliary works such as bridges, causeways and culverts etc. for all Water and Power Wing Projects of WAPDA.

Monthly and Annual Progress Reports of CDO (W) are also compiled and prepared in this directorate.

D-VI Architecture Directorate:

Architecture Directorate/Section is responsible for planning and design of residential and non-residential buildings of various formations of WAPDA.

Presently this Directorate is working on residential and non-residential buildings of Diamer Basha Dam Project, Kachhi Canal, Rainee Canal and the works of the similar nature for NPCC, PESCO, Golen Gol and various Projects of Water and Power Wing of WAPDA.
