Tarbela Dam

Tarbela Dam is located on the river Indus 50 miles northwest of Islamabad and completed in 1974. It is World's largest earth and rock-filled dam, which has greatly enhanced the agriculture and industrial potential in the Country.

Due to silt carried by inflowing water, to the extent of 110,000 MAF per year since 1974, sedimentation has taken place, which has reduced the gross reservoir capacity from 11.620 MAF to 8.496 MAF.
