Location
The Project area lies on River Indus between Kotri Barrage & Indus River outfall into the Arabian Sea. The barrage site is proposed to be located about 45 km upstream Indus River outfall into the sea, 10 km east of Baghan village, 65 km south of Thatta City & 120 km east of Karachi City, Sindh.

Status:-               

  • In a meeting on Pakistan's Water Issues chaired by PM on 15.05.2019 at Prime Minister Office, MoWR & WAPDA was directed to carry out Feasibility Study of Weir d/s Kotri.
  • In-principle approval for the Project concept was accorded by Prime Minister during the meeting on 05.08.2019.
  • A briefing on the Project was held on 23.08.2019 under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sindh at CM Secretariat, wherein it was unanimously agreed to undertake the Feasibility Study & implementation of the Project by WAPDA.
  • PC-II Proforma for Feasibility Study amounting to Rs. 350 Million submitted to MoWR on 05.09.2019. MoWR comments dated 18.09.2019 & 30.09.2019 responded on 24.09.2019 & 02.10.2019 respectively.
  • The data collection form different agencies/departments have been initiated including Survey of Pakistan (06.09.2019), Geological Survey of Pakistan (12.09.2019), Sindh Irrigation Dept. (16.09.2019), Sindh Irrigation & Drainage Authority (16.09.2019), Sindh Environment Climate Change & Coastal Development Department (16.09.2019) and Bureau of Statistics (20.09.2019)
  • WAPDA has initiated the Desk Study by utilizing in-house technical expertise along with resources planning for the project.
  • WAPDA Authority accorded approval for the release of funds amounting to Rs. 50 Million from Authority’s funds as bridge financing reimbursable subsequently from PSDP, to initiate the field investigation for the feasibility study of the Sindh Barrage Project.
  • MoWR comments dated 18.09.2019 & 30.09.2019 replied on 24.09.2019 & 02.10.2019 respectively
  • Data received from Govt. of Sindh, Irrigation Department on 02.10.2019.
  • FFC, MoWR cleared the PC-II Proforma for Feasibility Study on 09.10.2019 for approval of DDWP.
  • DDWP has approved the PC-II Proforma subject to rationalized cost on 01.11.2019.
  • MoWR accorded Administrative approval on 17.12.2019 at a rationalized cost of Rs. 327.528 Million.
  • Inception Report is under preparation and will be completed by April 2020.
