The project is located on Indus River near Gilit. Power House and Dam sites are 560 km & 610 km, respectively from Islamabad.

PRESENT STATUS / PROGRESS
        

·        Pre-feasibility report of the Project has been prepared in March 2005.
Draft Feasibility Report was submitted by the Consultants on March 31, 2009.

·        Comprehensive model studies are in progress at Irrigation Research Institute (IRI) Nandipur Model studies for sectional model spillway have been completed. Models for low mid level and tailrace outlets are being constructed for testing.

.        For 4 No. Exploratory Adits in dam Area have been completed. The award of contract for exploratory Adits in Powerhouse and Surge areas are at final stage. The evaluation of bids for Exploratory Adits in MMT/Fault Zone is in progress.

·        Drilling in dam and powerhouse areas at new structure location is in progress. Upto date 10116 m drilling has been completed against 10590 m. 536 m River bed drilling in dam area has been completed by Tarbela Dam Structure Division WAPDA.

.        Suspended sediment samples at Gainji Bridge, Kachura Alam Bridge and Bunji Bridge have been collected and analyzed by ISRIP, WAPDA. Intensive sediment sampling has been carried out during the year 2009 and is being continued for year 2010.
